The Peak District is a National Park in the centre of England that covers most of North Derbyshire and some parts of Staffordshire, Cheshire, Greater Manchester and the southern edges of South and West Yorkshire.
This gallery is a random order selection of images of the Dark Peak area, so called because of the shale, sandstone and millstone grit geology. The Dark Peak mostly occupies the northern part and the east and west edges of the Peak District. It is generally higher ground with peat and heather moors, cliffs and reservoirs and much of the scenery is bleaker, wilder and more dramatic than that of the White Peak.
