The obvious choice for a country walk is a warm summer’s day but winter walking also has its advantages. Ok, I’m not too keen on walking in heavy rain but an icy or snowy day can provide some stunning views and as long as you wear the right gear it’s fun and often easier than walking in baking hot sunshine.
In central England where I live we don’t usually get particularly severe winters but we get a few days of snow most years and there is often snow in the hills of the nearby Peak District while the roads and surrounding towns are quite clear. Obviously it’s a good idea to go to places you’ve walked before and know reasonably well as footpaths tend to disappear from view under just a few inches of snow!
